Journalism and communication of Liaoning University was set up in 1983. Liaoning University is one of the first 30 universities which set up this major and it is also the first university in Northeast China that started Journalism as a basic course. The major of Advertising in Liaoning University was set up in 1993, Radio & Television Science major in 1999 and Editing and Publishing major in 2003.

In 1999, Liaoning University has been given the awarding qualification of Master degree in Journalism. And it is also the first college in the 3 Northeast provinces of China which owns this honor. Liaoning University also has been granted as the awarding qualification of Master degree in Advertising in 2002 and the first-level Master degree in Journalism and Communication discipline in 2006. In 2011, we have obtained the awarding qualification of Master degree in Journalism and Communication (MJC) Discipline. In 2014, the first-level discipline of arts in our school has been authorized as the doctorate degrees awarding units of "communication and media culture".

The School of Journalism and Communication of Liaoning University was co-constructed with Liaoning Provincial Party Committee Propaganda Department in 2014. It is the only provincial construction school in Liaoning Province. It includes five majors: Journalism, Advertising, Radio & Television Science, Editing and Publishing, and Internet and New media. There are 23 full-time teachers in our school including 1 teacher who is in the New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China, 2 committee members of the Journalism and Communication teaching steering committee of Ministry of Education, 1 teacher who was selected by ten-thousand-level New Century Talents Project of Liaoning Province.

With 30 years development, 4000 students who learn Journalism and Communication major have graduated. Some of them are well-known journalists, famous editors and industry leaders.
