On March 28, a Senegal TV show featuring Chinese martial arts, “Senegal Martial Art Hall”, went to film about martial arts in Confucius Institute at Université Libre de Dakar. Foreign Dean Fale, Chinese Dean Sun Zhen and the culture teacher Guo Xiaofeng were interviewed and joined the shooting together with several students.
The TV program is very popular in Senegal with a large audience in Senegal. This time it filmed about some Chinese cultural activities at the Institute: recording the classes of long weapon and shadowboxing taught by Guo Xiaofeng, and inviting some adolescent students of local martial art club to exchange experience with the Institute. Meanwhile, Mr. Guo introduced the development and historical roles of China’s tea culture, Qigong (a system of deep breathing exercises) and Taoism. The enjoyable shooting attracted many college students to watch. At the interview in the end of the show, Dean Sun talked more about martial arts and Chinese culture and answered some questions, further promoting martial arts in the CI at Université Libre de Dakar.
People in Senegal are very fond of martial arts, building numerous martial art clubs in the capital of Dakar. A lot of children there start to practice martial art from a very young age. Many students there fall in love with Chinese Kungfu, as they come to the Confucius Institute in Dakar to learn Chinese and Chinese culture, making it an essential way to spread Chinese culture.
