Excellent Results by LNU Students in ‘FLTRP Uchallenge’ National University Foreign Language Skills Competition

The Liaoning Provincial Competition, part of the 2023 College Foreign Language Contest and ‘FLTRP Uchallenge’ National College Foreign Language Skills Competition, themed ‘Understanding Contemporary China’, was hosted by the College of Foreign Studies of Liaoning University.


                                               


 

The competition consisted of 14 events, including interpretation, translation, and multilingual competitions, in addition to the traditional speech, reading, writing, and teaching contests. The speech, interpretation, reading, writing, translation, and teaching competitions were held simultaneously at Puhe and Chongshan campuses of LNU. A total of 739 student contestants and 18 teacher contestants from 55 institutions of higher education in Liaoning Province gathered to showcase their talents on the stage of the competition.

Liaoning University students performed excellently in this competition, winning nine gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals, which is a new historical record for the number of awards. Gold medal winners will advance to the national finals.

These winners include: Jiang Xinxuan (College of Foreign Studies, instructed by Wang Lei), Tang Yixin (School of Law, instructed by Liu Hongfei), and Li Yanxiao (School of International Economics and International Relations, instructed by Du Juan), who won gold medals in the speech contest; Wang Yilin (College of Foreign Studies, instructed by Wang Danyang) and Li Jiaying (College of Foreign Studies, instructed by Wang Lei), who won gold medals in the interpretation contest; Chen Ziyun (College of Foreign Studies, instructed by Lin Xuejiao) and Sun Jiayang (College of Foreign Studies, instructed by Wang Danyang), who won gold medals in the translation contest; Ma Jiaxing (Asia-Australia Business College, instructed by Chen Cong) won a gold medal in the writing contest; and Luo Manyuan (Asia-Australia Business School, instructed by Liu Cong) won a gold medal in the reading contest. The advisor team of Hao Jiajia, Liu Shuang, Che Yanqiu, Sun Yanjie, and Du Juan from the College of Foreign Studies won the second prize in the Teaching Star competition.



    

The ‘Understanding Contemporary China’ National College English Contest of ‘FLTRP Uchallenge’ is a top-level competition for English majors in China. Since its establishment, it has closely followed the pulse of the times and served as a bridge for understanding China and communicating with the world. Over the years, Liaoning University has actively responded to the demand for talent cultivation in the new era, providing a platform for in-depth thinking and confident expression, and attaching importance to improving students’ professional knowledge and skills. While assessing language abilities, the contest also enhances students’ ability to think critically and communicate across cultures.
