On September 10, 2024, Liaoning University (LNU) held a symposium to celebrate the 40th Teachers’ Day in Room 208 of Boyuan Building, Chongshan Campus. The Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and President of the university, Yu Miaojie, attended the symposium and delivered a speech. Representatives from relevant functional departments of the university, renowned experts and scholars, provincial-level teaching masters, teachers with top-tier domestic and international publications, mid-career and young key teachers, outstanding young scholars, and think tank experts attended the meeting. The symposium was chaired by Vice President Shi Baodong.

At the symposium, President Yu Miaojie highlighted that teachers are the foundation of the university’s construction of world-class disciplines and are also the fundamental force driving the university forward despite challenges. He affirmed the hard work and outstanding contributions made by the teacher representatives for the development of the university. President Yu emphasized the importance of studying and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the National Education Conference and stressed that building a high-quality and professional teaching staff should be a fundamental task.

Firstly, it is crucial to recognize the importance of developing a high-quality and professional teaching team. The quality of teachers is a decisive factor affecting the educational quality and talent cultivation level of the university and is an essential guarantee for fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. In daily educational and teaching work, high standards and strict requirements should be maintained to improve the quality of the teaching staff.

Secondly, it is necessary to enhance policy support for teachers in their work and entrepreneurship. Teachers are the main body of the university’s development. The morale of each teacher determines the overall spirit of the university. Relevant functional departments should formulate incentive measures based on practical conditions to better stimulate teachers’ motivation for learning, growth, and innovation.

Thirdly, a good environment for teachers’ growth and development should be created. The development concept of ‘student-centered’ should be firmly established, with a focus on effectively meeting teachers development needs. Teachers’ opinions, suggestions, and wisdom should be integrated into daily management and service work to improve the level of refined management and services, making the support of teachers’ development needs the starting point and goal of respecting the teachers’ main role.

After the symposium, Yu Miaojie visited retired colleagues and frontline teachers, expressing holiday greetings and sincere thanks for their hard work and selfless dedication. He also attended a themed report meeting titled ‘Vigorously Promoting the Spirit of Educators and Accelerating the Construction of a Strong Educational Nation’. During the meeting, he encouraged all university teachers to be pioneers in educational innovation, guides for student growth, models of teacher ethics and conduct, and active participants in educational reform. He expressed his expectations and requirements for teachers to make significant contributions to student development, educational progress, and the revitalization of Liaoning.
