In an effort to further strengthen the collaborative efforts between the Provincial Publicity Department and Liaoning University in the field of journalism and communication education, Secretary Jin Guowei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Provincial Publicity Department and Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, was appointed as Director of the Administrative Committee of the School of Journalism and Communication of LNU. On January 10, 2025, he convened a plenary meeting of the Administrative Committee at the Lixing Building of LNU.

In his speech, Jin Guowei made positive remarks on the achievements of the School over the past decade and called for more joint efforts from both the Provincial Publicity Department and the University to make more progress. He put forward three requirements in this regard. Firstly, adhere to nurturing virtuous talents and cultivate outstanding journalism professionals. By taking training talents for the Party and the nation as a central task, efforts should be made in following Xi Jinping’s thoughts on culture and continue to strengthen education with Marxist journalism education. With these efforts, a new generation of passionate journalistic talents can be trained who would follow the Party’s instructions, possess a sense of mission, and are adept in the new era. Secondly, establish clear goals and forge ahead with high standards. Following the requirements from the Publicity Department of the CPC and the Ministry of Education, it is important to build the School of Journalism and Communication into a ‘brand school’ at the university and a first-class discipline nationwide. By making work plans with quantified work indicators and regular progress reviews, new advances will be made for both the School and disciplines with concerted efforts from the provincial Department and LNU. Thirdly, leverage the advantages of each side and pool strengths together. The Administrative Committee should take an active role in supporting the software and hardware development and talent building of the School by offering favorable policies and funds. Practices such as normalized mutual employment of faculty members, development of internship bases as well as joint intellectual endeavors with think tanks will contribute to more sound results of the School.

On behalf of LNU, Pan Yishan expressed his gratitude to Jin Guowei and all the member units of the Administrative Committee for their long-term support to the School of Journalism and Communication. He noted that LNU would further deepen cooperation with the Provincial Publicity Department on the development of the School on cultivating students’ morals and exploring new models on talent training. He added that efforts would also be made in focusing on development needs, strengthening resource supply and stimulating new vitality of cooperative education. He stressed the importance of sharing in technologies, platforms and resources so that the school could become a pacesetter for university-enterprise cooperation.

Before the meeting, Jin Guowei conducted a field research visit to the School of Journalism and Communication on its history and development. Ren Changhai, Deputy Director of the Provincial Publicity Department in charge of daily operations, and Pan Yishan, Secretary of the CPC Committee of LNU jointly signed the Agreement on Further Deepening the Development of the School of Journalism and Communication between the Publicity Department of Liaoning Province and Liaoning University. Wu Bin, Deputy Director of the Provincial Publicity Department, Director of the Information Office of the Provincial Government and Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee presided over the signing ceremony.
