On July 20, 2025, the national final of the 10th National University Students’ Life Science Competition (Scientific Exploration Category) concluded successfully at Yantai University. After months of competition from the Liaoning division, students from the College of Life Sciences of Liaoning University (LNU) won one national first prize, two national second prizes and six national third prizes. This marked the college’s best performance at the National Life Science Competition in recent years, highlighting the university’s remarkable achievements in enhancing talent cultivation.
The National University Students’ Life Science Competition (Scientific Exploration Category) aims to encourage university students to conduct independently designed experiments or field investigations in interdisciplinary fields around life science-related scientific issues and explore effective solutions to life science problems. The college attaches great importance to cultivating innovative and entrepreneurial talents. With strong support from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, it organized and mobilized students to apply for 21 competition projects. Through promoting learning and teaching via competitions, it strove to develop students’ scientific research and innovation capabilities and foster their all-round development.

As a key platform for advancing discipline development and student ability, the National University Students’ Life Science Competition plays a crucial role in deepening knowledge understanding, improving comprehensive literacy and broadening academic horizons. By participating in the competition, students can integrate classroom-learned fundamental theories of life sciences with scientific research practice, prompting them to proactively explore cutting-edge academic achievements, refine professional skills such as experimental operation and logical reasoning and cultivate scientific exploration spirit and critical thinking. This helps them form a systematic scientific research methodology and enhance discipline application ability.
