Course Preview | Professor Wing Thye Woo on “Current Growth Challenges”

We are delighted to announce the upcoming special course “Current Growth Challenges: Deglobalization, Financial Crisis, and Industrial Policies”, to be delivered by Professor Wing Thye Woo, a world-renowned economist and a full-time faculty member at Liaoning University. All students and faculty are warmly welcome to attend!

 

About the Lecturer

Professor Wing Thye Woo is a full-time Professor at the China Economic Research Institute of Liaoning University. He received his PhD from Harvard University and is Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Davis. He also serves as Vice President for Asia of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and holds visiting professorships at Fudan University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the University of Malaya.

Professor Woo is a leading authority on the economies of China, Indonesia, and Malaysia. His current research focuses on efficient and equitable pathways to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including projects on green finance, the middle-income trap, decarbonization, biodiversity conservation, productivity growth of SMEs, and the architecture of the global economy in a multipolar world. He enjoys a high international reputation in economics and finance, with approximately 180 papers published in leading journals such as American Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and Journal of International Money and Finance. One of his articles was selected by the Journal of International Economics as one of the 25 most influential papers in its 30-year history.

In addition, Professor Woo has served as an academic advisor to numerous international journals, including Editor-in-Chief of Asian Economic Papers and Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies, and Associate Editor of the Journal of Asian Economics. He has held research positions at leading universities, think tanks, and international institutions worldwide, and has provided policy advice on macroeconomic management, foreign exchange policy, SOE restructuring, trade, and financial sector development to governments and international organizations.
