On the afternoon of October 29, the “Bai Qinxian Eminent Scholars Lecture” (20th Edition) was held at the Puhe Campus of Liaoning University. Professor Wang Sangui, Wu Yuzhang Senior Chair Professor of Renmin University of China and Dean of the China Poverty Alleviation Research Institute at Renmin University of China, attended the event as the keynote speaker. Professor Qiu Huanguang, Vice President of Liaoning University, presented at the lecture and introduced the keynote speaker.

Professor Wang Sangui delivered a lecture titled “Chinese-style Anti-Poverty: The Path of Large-Scale Poverty Reduction with Chinese Characteristics.” Aligned with the important guiding principles of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, which emphasized the “continuous consolidation and expansion of the achievements in poverty alleviation,” he analyzed the pivotal role of economic growth, income distribution, regional poverty alleviation and development, as well as targeted poverty alleviation efforts in addressing poverty issues, based on a summary of China’s poverty reduction achievements since the reform and opening-up. Furthermore, he proposed concrete measures to consolidate and expand the outcomes of poverty alleviation. Professor Wang emphasized that consolidating and expanding these achievements requires a developmental support approach for low-income populations, focusing on capacity building, employment prioritization, industrial chain expansion, and establishing effective benefit-linking mechanisms. For underdeveloped regions, targeted assistance should be provided based on their resource endowments and comparative advantages, promoting the development of specialized agricultural industries, the transfer and development of labor-intensive industries that enrich the people, rural tourism, green energy development, as well as ecological compensation and carbon sink industries. Professor Wang’s research is highly practical and forward-looking, making significant contributions to the ongoing efforts to consolidate and expand the achievements in poverty alleviation and to advance common prosperity.

Following the lecture, the university presented Professor Wang Sangui with a commemorative certificate for the “Bai Qinxian Eminent Scholars Lecture.”

The lecture was attended by over 70 participants, including relevant responsible officials from the School of Economics and faculty and student representatives.
