Pan Yishan Leads Special Laboratory Safety Inspection

Date: 2026-03-26    Source:

On the afternoon of March 23, Pan Yishan, Secretary of the University Party Committee, led a team to carry out a special laboratory safety inspection at Chongshan Campus, with a focus on the School of Chemistry laboratories and the hazardous drug storage facility. Vice President Li Yupeng accompanied the inspection.

Pan Yishan carefully examined key aspects including the operation of laboratory equipment, the storage and arrangement of hazardous chemicals, hidden safety risk areas, and safety management records. He put forward three requirements for laboratory safety across the university: First, adhere to the principle of “intrinsic safety” to eliminate the root causes of laboratory safety hazards. A comprehensive clean-up of waste materials and hazardous chemicals should be carried out, with special emphasis on disposing of long-idle chemicals to eliminate safety risks. Efforts should be made to upgrade and replace laboratory equipment, actively seek policy support from the university’s “Two Major and Two New” projects, and enhance safety standards through expansion and new construction. Second, improve the whole-process management mechanism for laboratory chemicals to safeguard the bottom line of safety. Strict registration systems for chemical requisition, use, and storage must be implemented, with enhanced tracking of the flow of controlled chemicals such as those used in drug production. The principle of “small quantities and multiple withdrawals” should be followed, and long-unused hazardous chemicals should be disposed of promptly. No chemicals may be taken out of the laboratory without authorization. Third, uphold the concept of “rigorous prevention” and clarify laboratory safety responsibilities. Safety responsibilities must be assigned to specific individuals and posts to eliminate ambiguous accountability and management gaps. Comprehensive and meticulous inspections covering every corner and process of the laboratory should be conducted to leave no blind spots or hidden risks. Laboratory safety training for faculty and students should be strengthened to raise safety awareness and prevent operational errors or violations.

Officials from the University Administrative Office, Security Department, Asset Management Department (Bidding and Procurement Office), Academic Affairs Office, Science and Technology Research Office, School of Chemistry, and other relevant units accompanied the inspection.
