Prof. YU Miaojie

Professor Yu Miaojie was born in Raoping, Guangdong Province in 1976. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Davis. He is a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress, a standing committee member of the 14th People’s Congress of Liaoning Province, the deputy secretary of the CPC Committee and the president of Liaoning University. He is also the Chairman of the Academic Committee and the Degree Committee of the university.

Professor Yu Miaojie is the first Chinese recipient of the Royal Economic Society Prize of the UK. Additionally, he is a distinguished professor of national talent programs, a winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and an Outstanding Young Scientist of Beijing. Also, he is a Distinguished Professor of Boya Program at Peking University, a Chief Expert of major projects launched by the National Social Science Fund of China, a winner of the NG Teng Fong/Sino Scholarship for Outstanding Youth, and a global top 1% highly cited economic scholar in economics and management.

Prof. Yu Miaojie also serves as the Vice President of China Society of World Economics, the Chinese Association of Quantitative Economics, and the China Society of Industrial Economics. He is the Deputy Director of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong & Macao Studies, the Secretary-General of the ICCS (International Consortium for China Studies) China, a member of the Ministry of Commerce’s Economic and Trade Policy Advisory Committee, a council member of the Ministry of Finance’s “China-US Research Think Tank Alliance”, and the Vice President of Liaoning Federation of Social Sciences.

His main research areas include international trade, the world economy, and China’s economic development. He has been specially invited to the United Nations headquarters to give a report on China’s economic development. At Peking University’s 120th anniversary celebration, he was received by General Secretary Xi Jinping as a representative of outstanding faculty members and participated three times in high-level expert seminars chaired by then Premier Li Keqiang.

His award-winning monograph was recognized as one of the three most influential articles on the Chinese economy since the establishment of the Economic Journal, a top-tier global academic journal in economics established in 1891. His co-authored paper was also recognized as one of the most influential articles on the Chinese economy by the prestigious journal Review of Economics & Statistics. He has received the Wu Yuzhang Humanities and Social Sciences Award, the Zhang Peigang Development Economics Award, the Beijing Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences, and has been awarded the An-Zijie International Trade Research Award five times. His book Processing Trade and Firm Productivity won the Liu Shibai Economics Award. Professor Yu Miaojie also won the Hu Sheng Youth Academic Research Award and the China Young Economist Award.

Two of his courses, ‘China’s ‘Dual Circulation’ in the New Development Stage’ and ‘High-quality Development of the Chinese Economy’, were selected twice as excellent courses for national cadre education and training by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. He was also invited twice to provide interpretations of China’s economic development in live webcasts for the National Supervisory Commission of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. His English monograph, China-US Trade War & Trade Talk, was recognized by Springer with the ‘China New Development Award’ and the work has also been translated into German.
