Microwave radiation and catalyst integrated effect on the removal of petroleum hydrocarbon in contaminated soils

Abstract: Under the conditions of microwave frequency of 2 450 MHz, rated microwave output power of 400 W and pressure of 0.2 MPa, catalyst activated carbon C, Fe3O4 and TiO2 were added to remove petroleum hydrocarbons in the polluted soil. The results showed that the removal effect of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil under microwave action was significantly improved after the addition of three catalysts. When the addition of Fe3O4 and C was 0.2%, the removal effect of petroleum hydrocarbons was the best. When the amount of TiO2 is 0.5%, the petroleum hydrocarbon has the best removal effect. The optimal microwave radiation time for TiO2 as catalyst was 5 min, and for C and Fe3O4 was 7 min. Soil moisture content is an important factor affecting the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons, and the removal effect of petroleum hydrocarbons is the best when the soil moisture content is 16%~20%. When TiO2 was used as catalyst, microwave radiation for 7 min, and soil moisture content was 16%, the removal rate of petroleum hydrocarbons was the highest, reaching 84.5%. The combined effect of microwave heating and catalyst can enhance the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons in contaminated soil, which has a certain remediation effect on petroleum contaminated soil and has certain application prospects.
