Design and implementation of a GIS based geographic information system for functional zoning of coastal waters in Liaoning Province

Abstract:In recent years, due to the increasing infiltration of human activities into the coastal waters, the problem of ecological environment deterioration caused by human activities cannot be ignored. In order to better realize the efficient management of environmental information in the coastal waters of Liaoning Province and provide managers with support for environmental protection policy decision-making, Arc was applied in this study based on the investigation of environmental information in the functional zoning of the coastal waters of Liaoning Province GIS9.3 Information technology edits the original data and establishes the functional zoning information database of offshore waters, further establishes the system software framework with VisualBasic 6.0 as the development platform, uses OLE technology to embed Map Objects 2.2 control, and designs and realizes the geographic information system of the functional zoning of offshore waters of Liaoning Province. The results showed that the coastal waters of Liaoning Province were divided into 95 functional zones, including 10 first class zones, 19 second class zones, 13 third class zones, 50 fourth class zones, 2 special use zones and 1 mixed zone. The geographic information system for the functional zoning of coastal waters of Liaoning Province has the functions of graphic display and control, interactive query of spatial information and attribute information, thematic map making and monitoring information statistics and analysis. The system can realize the statistics, evaluation and analysis of pollution source information, functional area monitoring information, river monitoring information and national examination section information of Liaoning Province coastal waters. The system has the advantages of friendly interface, convenient operation and strong expandability. It can provide technical support for the efficient management of functional zoning information of Liaoning coastal area.
