Abstract: This paper summarizes and describes the three books of Douglas North, Yuyan Zhang, and Delon Asimoglu, "Violence and Social Order", "Economic Development and Institutional Choice", and "Why States Fail", and analyzes them through the differences in the definitions of institutions, the functions of institutions, and the key role of institutions in the rise and fall of a country, as well as their views on the role of institutions as the fundamental driving force of a country's sustainable development. Comparative analysis of their views on institutions as the fundamental driving force of a country's sustainable development. The methods and dynamics for developing countries to achieve sustainable development and leapfrog the middle-income trap are explored.
