Research on Compulsory Education in Rural Junior Middle Schools by Rawls' Theory of Justice — A Case Study of a County of Hubei Province

Abstract:

Education is the foundation of a country, it`s the cornerstone of national prosperity. Social fairness is the primary value of social justice, education fairness is the extension and embodiment of socialness. Achieving education equity not only can help to promote social equity, but also may influence the realization of the Great Renaissance of the Chinese Nation. This paper uses induction, comparative analysis and investigation methods. Analyzing the problems of rural compulsory education from the Rawls' justice principles, we can summarize that there are many injustice problems about rural compulsory education: unequal access to school, unfairness allocation of education resources, the unequal right to education between urban and rural areas, the dropout rate of disadvantaged groups is high. We hope that we can reducing the educational Gap between urban and rural areas, and promoting the educational equality through following measures: protect the right to education, take educational equity as the value choice, eliminate the urban-rural dual structure system, increase financial investment, protect the vulnerable groups with compensation measures.

This article is divided into five parts. In the first part of this paper, the research significance and the current situation of literature research at home and abroad were introduced. the research background, the research methods and the innovations of this paper are also explained. In the second part of this paper, the basic concepts of rural compulsory education equity was defined. the basic connotation of Rawls' theory of justice applied in the analysis of problems was expounded. In the third part of this paper, the current situation of rural compulsory education in A County of Hubei Province was summarized, the existing equity problems was analyzed. In the fourth part of this paper, the causes of the problem of rural compulsory education equity in A County of Hubei Province was analyzed. In the fifth part of this paper, countermeasures and suggestions to solve the problem of rural compulsory education equity from the perspective of Rawls' theory of justice were put forward.
