Abstract: The film The Return tells a sad story of a special historical era, and the director's ingenious narration embodies the male narrative strategy. In this narrative strategy, the female images can be understood as submissive and forbearing, from rebellion to conversion, assimilation or alienation of women. Through the reading and interpretation of these female images, this article analyzes the male subjective consciousness embodied in the film. To reveal the living state of women in the patriarchal society, and to reflect on the social and cultural reality revealed by the universal use and acceptance of male directors' gender discourse strategies in the context of multicultural ideas.
