Abstract: Gerda Lerner is the pioneer of American feminist historiography and the founder of Afro-American women's history studies. She was the first to explicitly propose that women's history needs its own unique research methods, and she tried to construct a gender interpretation method for it. Her methods of interpretation can be concretized into deconstruction, holism and multi-dimensional synthesis. The method of gender interpretation breaks through the shackles of language and concept on the study of women's history, focusing on the commonness of women as an independent whole, and explaining the differences between women as individuals in complex social relations, and hoping to explore the universal history of the two sexes. Although the premise of Lerner's approach to gender interpretation has some limitations, it is still an effective approach to the interpretation of women's history and points out the development direction of women's history research.
